Oral History Project

Published on Monday, July 14, 2008

Working in partnership with Penwith District Council and Hayle Area Plan Partnership, Harvey’s Foundry Trust has recently applied for a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to run a two year oral history project.
This project will create a permanent record of Hayle’s heritage, as passed on through the memories and experiences of its inhabitants.
We will record people talking about their experiences of living in the town focusing on working life in this industrial powerhouse, gaining insights into family life, the daily grind, social activities and any extraordinary events. Thus creating a collective memory of life in Hayle.

OBJECTIVES

This fascinating material will be available to the general public in a number of ways

  1. The recordings and documentation will be held at the Hayle Community Archive
  2. A small series of booklets will be complied and published drawing on the material generated.
  3. Working with local schools this project will create a ‘learning pack’
  4. Some of the recordings and video will be used as part of the visitor experience at Harvey’s Foundry Centre
  5. A selection of the audio and videos will be available online through the Harvey’s Foundry Trust website.
  6. An exhibition of the work will be held.

We will find out in September if our grant application has been successful, if you are interested in getting involved with this project whether it be through the recording of a memory or as a volunteers on this exciting project we would love to hear from you – so please get in contact!
